The Retreater

Foraging, Cooking and Swimming retreat

About The Retreat

Over the weekend, you'll learn all about the different types of British seaweed and how to prepare and cook them. The weekend will include a woodland foraging walk, a seaweed foraging, sea swimming and mackerel fishing half-day voyage to the Isle of Wight aboard one of our charter boats* and a morning spent foraging on the Hurst Castle Spit. Lucia Stuart is an artist, cook, forager & author who runs the Wild Food Kitchen on the South East Coast of England, a roving restaurant that combines gourmet feasts with foraging adventures. Lucia takes groups foraging and teaches them how to use the food they find. She has featured on BBC TV, Channel 4, Food Network USA & collaborated with international artists to share her knowledge of nature’s bounty through the seasons. Angus McChesney of Iconic Swims is a Channel swimmer, former Geography teacher and a beach lifeguard. Angus will lead the weekend's swims which will suit all standards of swimmer. This winter, Lucia featured on Arte, European Television, as an example of ‘cutting edge’, 21st century outdoor dining in a documentary "The History of the British Picnic". Tiptoe Lodge is usually our family home located in the stunning New Forest National Park, we specialise in looking after small groups of up to 10 people joining together in wholesome weekend activities, such as yoga, art and sewing (as well as swimming!) Most guests share in twin or double rooms for £400 per person but single occupancy is available by request and with a £200 supplement payable. Delicious healthy and nutritious meals and snacks are eaten communally around our kitchen table. New for 2023 is our bell tent option! Sleep on a proper bed in a cosy shared bell tent in our garden for £350 per person. Just want to come for the day?
